Working with schools we have designed these colourful A2 posters to be used in the classroom to engage children in focusing their learning. They can be used for target setting, as a centre to a visual support or as a point of reference when developing children’s arithmetic.
My Year 2 children have become familiar with the Get the Buzz ‘Arithmecycle’. They recognise it is a means to track their own progress in Mathematics. They are motivated to achieve the targets by way of a smaller version which is kept in their books. They use it, with my support, to set and record progress towards their personal targets.
Each Arithmecycle raises the profile of key skills or strategies needed to be fluent in arithmetic for that specific year. Careful consideration has been given to end of Key Stage Arithmetic testing when devising the content, encouraging efficiency and use of known facts.
Year 1 has four sections; counting, place value, addition and subtraction.
Years 2 to 4 have six sections; place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and a section for multiplication tables.
Year 5 replaces the multiplication tables section with fractions
Year 6 sees a greater emphasis on fractions and the introduction of percentages
