Authors Liz Hopkins and Marie Svilis are widely experienced teachers, managers and consultants, so they know through hands-on experience, how to make this work.
Unlike traditional schemes, Livello adopts a thematic approach by using picture books and texts as an exciting springboard for learning. Many teachers have been used to this approach in Foundation Subjects and Science but have found it more difficult to find inspiring approaches particularly in maths.
“I just wanted to say how fantastic I have found the units. I applied for my free one, Blodin the beast, and absolutely loved it as did the children in my class. It had a particular and positive impact on the boys who struggle with writing.” Victoria Scarano, year 4 teacher at St Finian’s Primary School, West Berkshire.
The picture books provide contexts for learning to give the learners purpose and engagement in what they do. More than that, it gives teachers a real opportunity to unleash their professional creativity in knowing that the hard work of ‘coverage’ and rigour has been done, freeing them up to think about their approaches towards teaching and to make the learning engaging and exciting.
